One of the early takeaways from the first weekend of MLS action seems to be that the Western Conference is still head an shoulders above the East.
There have been five interconference matches so far, and the West won four of them: Colorado 2-0 over Columbus, Vancouver 2-0 over Montreal, San Jose 1-0 over New England, and Dallas 2-1 over New York. The East got its lone win with a stoppage-time goal that gave Houston a 1-0 win over Chivas USA.
The first weekend of league play ends with another interconference match tonight: Philadelphia at Portland, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN2.
Then the decks clear for midweek CONCACAF Champions League matches, including Seattle at Santos Laguna at 6 p.m Wednesday on Fox Soccer.
