The Sounders have concluded today's training session at Starfire and will travel to Chicago this afternoon.
Coach Sigi Schmid gave this assessment of the health of his team:
"Rosales and Johansson have been fine, so they’re OK. Gspurning is getting better, so we think he’s going to be fine by Saturday for sure. Fernandez is coming along well, but like I said earlier this week, it’s probably too early for him. Except for the long-term guys, I think everybody else is fine. Ianni’s got a little bit of a back issue, so we’re going to have to make a decision there."
If Gspurning couldn't go, Schmid gave an enthusiastic statement of faith in reserve keeper Bryan Meredith.
Never miss a local story.
"My faith in Meredith is fantastic," he said. "The reason we brought him back into our team last year, Bryan after he finished with Kitsap, is because we think he’s a quality keeper. That’s the reason we drafted him. At our combine we looked at Ryan Meara who’s not playing for New York, all those goalkeepers, and we felt that Meredith and Josh Ford were ahead of all those guys. So, I mean Ryan Meara is starting in the league. I think if Bryan Meredith were on a different team he’d be starting in this league."
