The Sounders have concluded the local portion of this week's training. No major news out of the session today at Starfire. (Although coach Sigi Schmid added Leo Gonzalez to the list of Sounders who will miss the Whitecaps game due to injury -- along with Brad Evans, Patrick Ianni and Michael Gspurning.)
Tomorrow, the club will bus up to Vancouver in the morning, and train at BC Place Stadium in the afternoon, in advance of their 2 p.m. Saturday match against the Whitecaps.
We asked Schmid how a three-hour bus trip to Vancouver compares with an hour at the airport and a two-hour flight to, say, Colorado.
"It all depends what movie Nolan Myer brings along – our equipment guy," Schmid said. He’s in charge of the movies. I see a lot of shows that I’ve never seen before. I got introduced to 'Entourage' in 2009. And then … 'The League.' I’ll see what show I get introduced to on this bus trip.
Never miss a local story.
"No, it’s a lot more comfortable on the bus. You can just relax. Guys bring their pillows on board. You can bring something to eat and something to drink. They decide what movie to put on. Some guys listen to music. It’s a lot more relaxing than going to the airport and having to go through the stress of flying and getting on a plane."
