Wednesday they'll play about 25 miles apart as the Silverbacks meet Sounders FC in a U.S. Open Cup match in Tukwila, while Jamael plays a PDL match in Tacoma.
Today, both players talked about their conflicting games.
Atlanta midfielder RAPHAEL COXOn playing so near to his brother at the same time) I’m excited. I’d love to see his game. I know he’d love to see mine. It’s kind of bad timing. I hope he does well. I hope they win. And I hope we get a good result as well.
On playing so close to home) I wanted it to be in Atlanta – we’d have an advantage at home. But it’s also nice to come back and see everyone: family, friends. I know the atmosphere here is always amazing, so it’s a great opportunity. ... It’s going to be amazing. I’m going to love playing in front of family and friends. You always get up playing (against) your hometown team. It has a little extra meaning. You try to get up for every game always, but it has a little extra meaning to play at home.
On which game his family will attend) I’m not sure what they’ve decided on, but I don’t play in Seattle much, so I think they might learn toward my way since he’s got a whole season here. Hopefully come people go to support their game as well. … It’s unlucky that both games are going to be at the same time – drawing a little crowd from each other.
Sounders U-23 midfielder JAMAEL COXOn the conflict) I was hoping to watch him play. But unfortunately we have the game. Hopefully I can catch some of his games down in Atlanta sometimes.
On the U-23s playing at Cheney Stadium) It should be pretty good. The first game ever at Cheney Stadium. It should be an experience for us. I hope it goes well.
On the U-23's 2-1-2 start to the season) We have a lot of good players. We’re tying to get our barings right. We haven’t played with each other at all, but we’re trying to find that connection. It should be a fun season.
U-23 kicks off against Vancouver at 6 p.m. at Cheney Stadium.
Sounders FC kicks off against Atlanta at 7 p.m. at Starfire Sports Stadium.
