Here's some of what Steve Zakuani had to say tonight after being on the 18-man roster for the first time since his leg injuries in April of 2010.
"That was the first time I’ve watched a game from the bench in over a year. It was a good experience for me to get that taste today. It would have been nice for me to get in, but I think the way the game went probably it was smart not to. Like I said, I’m feeling a lot more part of the team with that kind of step forward. It’s good. It’s good. It was a huge step forward.
"I didn’t know (if I would play). I had been speaking to Sigi. … We both kind of felt I had made some huge improvements in training. And yesterday he asked me how I felt about being on the bench. I said, ‘I’d love to.’ … It’s just how the game goes. If the team was winning 3-nil, and I come on in the 80th minute, that would have been the perfect scenario. But it wasn’t to be. Until the last two subs went in – Alvaro and Sammy – I thought I had a chance. Like everybody else, I was on my toes and ready to go. It didn’t happen. It’s not a disappointment. I understand the decision, of course. It was a great taste for me and I’m going to go home really happy because I hadn’t been on the bench for over a year."
