The Sounders trained in the rain of Tukwila today before heading down to Los Angeles, where clear skies and temperatures in the upper-80s await.
After training we got a few minutes with coach Sigi Schmid in advance of the MLS regular season finale against the Galaxy at 6 p.m. Sunday.
On the feeling of the team: It’s good. It’s like we’ve talked about all week. It’s just a matter of us staying in rhythm, staying sharp, taking care of what we need to take care of to make sure we’re ready for the playoffs.
On players at the end of a long season: Obviously today the spirit was up, I thought maybe because of the rain and so forth. The movement of the ball was really good in practice. It’s more workmanlike. They know we’re about to enter the second season – the real season, the business part of the season. So we’ve got to get down to business and that’s our attack for Sunday. But we’ve got one more piece of business to take care of before we get to the biggest job.
On the health of Andy Rose: He won’t go on Sunday. We won’t take him to LA. We knew we took a little bit of a chance playing him on Wednesday. He had a little bit of a strain, but he’s feeling much better today. We just wanted to be cautious with him today and tomorrow, and he should be back into training on Tuesday.
On the general health of the team: OK. As good as we can be at this stage. Leo (Gonzalez) has made progress and Patrick (Ianni) is making progress. Again, we hope for them will be able to enter into training next week as well.
