Santos advanced with a 3-0 win over Houston tonight, which sent them through on a 3-1 aggregate score. Santo’s goals came from Juan Pablo Rodriguez, Herculez Gomez and Marc Crosas. (In the other game tonight, Los Angeles outsted Herediano and will advance to a semifinal series with Monterrey.)
The Sounders had advanced Tuesday with a 3-1 home win over Tigres, which put them through by a 3-2 aggregate.
Dates for the semifinal round have not been set. However, the series will begin April 2-4 at CenturyLink Field and resolve April 9-11 at Estadio Corona in Torreon. The Sounders and Santos met in the quarterfinals of last season’s tournament, with Santos eliminating Seattle by a 7-3 aggregate.
After advancing on Tuesday, Sounders coach Sigi Schmid spoke of the potential rematch saying, “We’ve got a score to settle with Santos.”
