Final: Sounders-Revs nil-nil. Sounders remain winless at 0-3-2, with a three-game road trip awaiting.
Their first clean sheet of season in all competitions, but their third time shutout in MLS.
"Just a little bit of déjà vu in terms of you’ve got to finish your chances," coach Sigi Schmid said. "If you finish your chances you win games. We had chances obviously to put the game away in the first half. We didn’t score. We didn’t put the game away in the first half. You let them hang around and they almost catch us at the very end. You work and you train towards playing with a rhythm, being about to put pressure on the other team, maintaining possession of the ball, creating chances: We did all that. And we continue to work on our finishing and all that, but the opportunities are there, but we need one to go in, and we didn’t finish it today, and that’s why we’re standing here with a tie."
I'll add additional notes and quotes in new posts above.Through 60 minutes: Seattle domination continues with more unfinished chances. The best might have been from Steve Zakuani, who fired just wide from the top of the area. 0-0.
Never miss a local story.
Second half: ... has begun.
Halftime: General domination by Sounders, but their half-dozen or so real chances all went wrong somewhere. 0-0.
Shots: 8-1 SEA; on goal, 2-0 SEA, corners 4-1 SEA, duels won 59.2% SEA, possession 65.1% SEA.
Also during halftime interview USA national coach Jurgen Klinsmann said he is in town to look at players and scout Seattle facilities for summer World Cup qualifier. He said he's disappointed Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans not available to play today.
Also said Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso would have been called in to USA January camp, but Cuba is not being cooperative in releasing him to the United States.
First 30 minute: Sounders in full control of everything but scoreboard, which remains 0-0.
First 15 minutes: Much the best chances to Sounders. Zakuani and Neagle have been a quick and energetic combo up top. Alonso put one just off the top of the netting, which fooled some fans thinking it went it. Lots of chances. But scoreless.
First kick: ... has been struck.
Lineups: Sounders starters GK Gspurning; D Yedlin, Hurtado, Traore, Gonzalez; M Rosales, Alonso, Joseph, Caskey; F Zakuani, Neagle. Reserves Burch, Martinez, Scott, Hahnemann, Rose, Ochoa and Lund.
New England starters: New England starters: G Shuttleworth; D Tierney, Farrell, Goncalves, Soares; M Roe, Cisse, Simms, Nguyen; F Toja, Bengtson. Reserves: Reis, Smith, Sene, Fagundez, Barnes, McCarthy, Dorman.
Pregame: Cool and cloudy -- but no rain -- at CenturyLink Field about two hours before New England and the Sounders kick off in an important game for two clubs that need a win.
The game will be shown on KONG, heard on the usual radio outlets, and blogged here. We'll also have more regular updates @donruiztnt.I'll be back as news happens, probably one again meaning what lineup the Sounders can piece together with key players such as Obafemi Martins (certainly) and Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans (probably) missing.
