Here's a note from the USL:
The final two amateur clubs in the U.S. Open Cup took their final bows on Wednesday night as the PDL’s Reading United and FC Tucson were eliminated by MLS opponents despite valiant efforts against the professional counterparts.
Reading-NYRB20529.jpgAs with fellow PDL sides the Des Moines Menace and Ocean City Nor’easters on Tuesday night, both Reading and Tucson competed strongly against the New York Red Bulls and Houston Dynamo, respectively, but in the end their opponent’s experience proved too much to overcome.
FC Tucson claims the U.S. Open Cup’s award of $15,000 for the last remaining fourth-division club, its two victories against professional opponents (Phoenix FC, San Antonio Scorpions) providing the tiebreaker. All four teams, however, will take their leave from the tournament with the knowledge that they competed with some of the best teams in the country and walked away with their heads held high.
