It’s gone final with the Houston Dynamo handing the Sounders a 3-1 loss before a sellout crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Sounders’ three-game winning streak ends and they fall to 10-8-4 on season. Houston jumps to 10-7-6.
Dynamo got two goals from Giles Barnes and one from Will Bruin.
Seattle’s lone goal came from Shalrie Joseph.
Home teams in this series have gone 8-0-3.
The Sounders return to action Aug. 25, when the Portland Timbers visit CenturyLink Field, where a crowd of around 67,000 is expected.
I’ll be back with locker room reaction and other game notes.
75' GOAL Houston. Rebound knocked in by Will Bruin from close range after Creavalle had hit crossbar. Houston, 3-1.
65' GOAL Seattle. Shalrie Joseph knocks in ball in scrum in front of goal after free kick from Marc Burch. Houston, 2-1.
61' Brad Evans in for Mauro Rosales.
Second half: ... is under way.
Halftime: Dynamo, 2-0.
41' Yellow card to Leo Gonzales.
39' First sub of the night, Houston's Warren Creavalle in for Ricardo Clark.
30-40'Sounders have been getting some chances -- Neagle, Dempsey, and an especially good header opportunity to Rosales. But still Houston, 2-0.
22' GOAL Houston. Barnes winds up and smacks it into the back of the net from 30 yards. Dynamo, 2-0.
17' GOAL Dynamo, Barnes finishing after earlier shot and fakes drew Gspurning and defense way out of position. Houston, 1-0.
First 15:No real flow yet. Best chance to Houston's Will Bruin, who was in the right place for an oddly bouncing ball, and ended up with a 1-on-1 with Gspurning from about 10 yards. And fired wide.
First kick: We're under way. Sounders and Dynamo -- each starting the day in fifth place in their conference, each needing these points.
Dynamo in orange/white; Sounders in shale/shale.
Lineup: For Seattle: GK - 1 Michael Gspurning; RB - 17 DeAndre Yedlin; CB - 4 Patrick Ianni; CB - 19 Djimi Traore; LB - 12 Leo Gonzalez; RM - 10 Mauro Rosales (captain); CM - 6 Osvaldo Alonso; CM - 21 Shalrie Joseph; LM - 8 Marc Burch; F - 27 Lamar Neagle; F - 2 Clint Dempsey; Reserves: Marcus Hahnemann, Zach Scott, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Brad Evans, Servando.
For Houston: G Hall; D Boswell, Taylor, Ashe, Sarkodie; M Clark, Garcia, Moffat, David; F Bruin, Barnes. Reserves: Marscheider, Weaver, Lopez, Driver, Creavalle, Brunner.
The stadium:That unusual facade (shown a few posts down) makes this an unusual looking stadium from the outside -- almost like EMP. But it's pretty straighforward inside. Lots of orange. Wide concourses. Lots of orange. There are some party-deck looking areas in each end zone. Lots of orange.Pregame: It's 93 degrees in Houston about two hours before first kick. But even at that, it's not as bad as mid-August here can be. And as you can see, shawdow already is covering big blocks of the pitch -- and that will only increase by first kick, which is 8 p.m. local time.
The game will be shown on KONG 6/16, heard on the usual radio outlets, blogged here, and tweeted @donruiztnt.
I'll be back as news happens, maybe starting with some early impressions of the stadium -- which the Sounders are playing at for the first time today -- and then lineups in that final hour before the game.
