Before joining the Sounders this month, forward Cam Weaver of Kent played five seasons with the Houston Dynamo. Then his worlds collided tonight as the Sounders played to a 1-1 draw with the Dynamo in the Carolina Challenge Cup.
I asked him how it felt to be facing those familiar orange kits.
"I was there for five seasons, so I’m very familiar with those guys," he said. "It seemed like I was back in training with those guys, really, because I faced those guys every day for quite a few seasons. It was good to see them, but I’ve moved on from Houston and obviously now am trying to make an impact here."
I also asked how he feels he's doing in the preseason pecking order of forwards.
"You’ve got to remember I’ve been here just over a week now, so I’m trying to get my legs with me, and I think they’ve done a good job of not just throwing me out there and play me a ton of minutes and get me injured right off the bat," he said. "I’m trying to catch up with other guys who have been here all preseason and were kind of ahead of me in fitness. I’m trying to work my way in there as quickly as possible and get up to speed with everyone and show I belong here – which I definitely think I do. We’ll see what happens going forward."
