The Sounders have announced the signings of three new players over the past couple of days.
Today we got the chance to talk with Mexican international midfielder about his move north.
"There is a guy in Mexico (who provides) a link between Mexican players and this league," he said in pretty good English. "So I talked with him and he told me there was an interest in the Sounders to take a look at my performance and they wanted to bring me to train with the team so they can make a decision. One month ago I came with the team, and they said I was OK, and so I’m very glad to be here and to sign with Sounders. This is a new challenge in my career, and this is a pretty good opportunity to me to find out what can I do in a new country, in a new league. So I’m very happy."
Meanwhile, coach Sigi Schmid had this to say about today's signees: midfielders Fabio Pereita and Michael Azira: "Fabio – the irrelevant pick, the last pick – he made our team and he made our team because of his effort. He’s like a big sponge and he wants to learn all the time. Technically, he’s very clean, he’s a good player, loves to play the game, he’s enthusiastic. I think he’s got a good future. Michael Azira is a player who played last year with Charleston. He’s a midfielder who I think can play in Ozzie’s role if needed. He can also play more attacking as well. Sometimes he’s the kind of player that you don’t notice, and you have to watch and you see all the little things he does to knit a team together. He can be strong on the tackle, he’s good with the ball, he’s very simple."
Never miss a local story.
