The Portland Timbers have informed Sounders media that Steve Zakuani will not be made available to the press this week, leading up to the Cascadia Cup match Saturday at Providence Park.
Zakuani's status for the match isn't certain, as he missed the Timbers' last match with a hamstring issue and Portland reporters say he wasn't present at the post-training cool-down session open to media today.
Meanwhile, Seattle coach Sigi Schmid had only this to say today when asked about Zakuani's off-season departure for Portland.
"We hope he’s healthy to play, and if he’s healthy to play we’ll be sad to see him on the other side of the pitch," Schmid said. "But it was a decision that he reached, and that we reached as well. There were certain options that were presented that really weren’t presented to us, and options that he took advantage of in terms of going down there. But it is what it is, and we move forward and they move forward."
