A new professional indoor soccer team is coming to the Puget Sound area, club owner Dion Earl announced Monday.
Earl, a former player for the A-League Seattle Sounders and indoor Seattle SeaDogs, said the new team will be called The Stars, and will play in the newly organized Major Arena Soccer League, which will bring together teams that played previously in the Major Indoor Soccer League and Professional Arena Soccer League.
“I think my three kids are the driving force,” he said. “I want them to grow up to play soccer someday and grown to love it as much as I did. I want to bring professional indoor soccer back to the area. It’s exciting, I think.”
Earl said the team’s home arena and head coach will be announced in two to three weeks.
Never miss a local story.
Here is his news release:
The STARS new Professional Indoor Soccer Team in the state of Washington secures a spot in the new MISL soccer League.
Organizers of a new professional indoor soccer league have gathered the last 3 days in Baltimore and finalized the details of a new league that will include THE STARS.
The STARS Player/Coach/Owner has confirmed that the newly formed team THE STARS has sent in the necessary paperwork to be one of the 20-26 entries in the league.
The new league will be a combination of a handful of teams that bolted the Major Indoor Soccer League-such as Syracuse-and teams formerly in the Professional Arena Soccer League. The former MISL teams were unhappy with the leagues growth.
"It could possibly grow into one of the most exciting and maybe the biggest soccer league in the country", Earl has stated.
"I am extremely happy to be a part of this. This is truly a Dream come true that in my wildest of lifes rides yet, I could have never imagined this would happen. I have had a tremendous amount of support from the League and even peers in the league that I have played with and against in my career. My phone has been nonstop ringing with players calling me from Las Vegas to San Francisco to even players from other teams in the League that are looking for a change." Earl has said.
"Kevin Milliken, the commissioner of the League has definitely been one of my biggest supporters and like a Dad to me. I can't thank him enough for pushing me." I always believed I would come back to my roots and soccer in the Northwest but I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be something like this!" Earl goes on to say laughing.
The regular season will consist of 20 games. Earl said the THE STARS most frequent out of division foes could be against the likes of Dallas, Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and Milwaukee.
The season is projected to start in Late October, a little earlier than the MISL's schedule dictated.
Training camp from Earl's team will begin the beginning of October and will be a 5 -7 Day Work week Schedule.
"My competitive drive and desire says I want a championship my first year!" "My door is open to any player that can sell himself to me and perform at the highest level first and foremost." "After all this is Professional Indoor Soccer right." I believe in fairness and equality.
Earl will hold 2-3 Open Tryouts during the summer TBA and the Team will be announced in full the first part of September.
Earl said that a press release announcement of the Head Coach and other pivotal employees will be announced in the weeks to come.
Also to be announced in the coming weeks to come will be the Arena that THE STARS will play in.
