SUMNER, Wash. –The Sounders U-23 will return to Sunset Stadium in Sumner this Sunday for their home opener of the 2014 Premier Development League season. They will take on the Puget Sound Gunners FC at 2:00 p.m. in search of three points.
Fresh from their offseason rebranding, the Gunners FC (formerly the North Sound SeaWolves FC) earned one point in their season opener against the Portland Timbers U-23.
The Sounders U-23 are coming off of a tough 1-0 road loss to open the season at Lane United, and will be looking to bounce back against a Gunners side that struggled last season. The Gunners finished 2013 with a record of 2-10-2, earning only eight points, placing last in the Northwest Division. However, one of their two wins came against the Sounders U-23 on a special Independence Day matchup in Edmonds.
Last season the Sounders U-23 collected 17-points with a record of 4-5-5, finishing fourth – one spot from playoff contention. The Sounders U-23 are entering into their third season as the Sounders FC affiliate in the PDL. They will be determined to return to their 2012 form when they captured the Northwest Division title, went on to become the Western Conference Champion, and represented the west in the PDL National Final Four.
