The Sounders opened the season on the road against league newcomer, Lane United FC, and fell 1-0 despite out shooting their opponent by a margin of 12-4. Then last Sunday the Sounders U-23 faced the Puget Sound Gunners FC in Sumner for their first home match of the season. The Sounders fell into a 0-3 hole, and despite a late rally, they lost the match 3-2. The Sounders had no points to show from the match despite a lopsided shooting margin of 20-7.
The Whitecaps U-23 have already completed five matches thus far in the PDL season, but have also struggled to come up with many points. Their record of two losses and three ties does not include any wins, but they have scored at least a goal in every match and are averaging two per contest. The Sounders U-23 defense will need to be on the lookout for the Whitecaps leading goal scorer, midfielder Cody Cook (3).
Last season the Sounders U-23 split with their Canadian rivals, defeating the Whitecaps 1-0 at home before losing 2-4 three weeks later in Vancouver. The Whitecaps U-23 went on to finish one spot in front of the Sounders U-23 in the final standings.
