FC Dallas' shorthanded 2-1 win over RSL on Friday moved them into a four-way tie atop Major League Soccer with Seattle, Salt Lake and Kansas City -- and therefore a three-way tie atop the Western Conference.
Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said he watched the game, but not in the sense of scoreboard-watching in a sense of advantage to his team.
"All that's important for the Sounders is to win our games," he said. "It doesn't matter what anybody else does. If we take care of our own business, we'll be OK."
The Sounders have at least one game in hand on all the others. SKC returns to action today against DC United.
Never miss a local story.
Just a reminder that a very good Western Conference match -- RSL at Dallas -- is on NBCSN tonight.
RSL is even with the Sounders in the MLS points race, while Dallas looms three points behind and therefore would make it a three-way tie atop the Western Conference with a win tonight.
Here's a preview from the league; and below, a brief overview from the network:
NBCSN’s coverage of Major League Soccer continues Friday, August 22 at 9 p.m. ET when FC Dallas host Real Salt Lake at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
Western Conference powerhouse Real Salt Lake, unbeaten in their last six games, are led by U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Kyle Beckerman. FC Dallas, third in the Western Conference, come into the contest off of a 5-0 away win against the San Jose Earthquakes this past Saturday, and feature a rising star in rookie Tesho Akindele.
COMMENTATORS: NBC Sports Group’s lead play-by-play announcer John Strong calls FC Dallas vs Real Salt Lake and will be joined by joined by Bolton Wanderers (U.K.’s Football League Championship) midfielder Stuart Holden and host Russ Thaler.
Strong on FC Dallas vs Real Salt Lake: "This is a fun-looking clash at the top of the Western Conference standings. Real Salt Lake showed last Saturday that they deserve to be in first, as returning World Cup star Kyle Beckerman once again led the charge. FC Dallas doesn't get much of the spotlight, but new coach Oscar Pareja has led them on a remarkable charge this summer, and Tesho Akindele has bolstered his Rookie of the Year candidacy with a hat trick in their last game."
