The Sounders are expected to return to a more conventional lineup Wednesday when they return to action at Dallas, even though it is once again a two game week -- the last one.
"This is the last of our two-game weeks, and after that it’s one week and every weekend we play games from then on," coach Sigi Schmid said today. "I think it’s a mental approach to get through it, and I thought the cumulative effect of trying to play some guys against New York probably would have ruled them out of this game here. So we decided to play our cards that way. But it wasn’t the personnel, it was we played a bad game."
Schmid was asked if he considered giving players such as Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins the whole night off instead of inserting them for the final half hour with New York up 3-0.
"Yeah, and I talked to them, but they wanted to get onto the field," he said. "The plan was for them to come on at 55 to 60 (minutes). We thought we’d still be (down) 1-0 at that point. And obviously things changes quickly, but they still wanted to play."
