The Sounders concluded a mighty wet training session this morning at Starfire before heading down to LA for their 5:30 p.m. Sunday match with the LA Galaxy.
The Sounders need two points over their two remaining games to claim the club's first Supporters Shield.
Here's some of what coach Sigi Schmid had to say before his team headed out:
On Clint Dempsey and other health issues: Fine. Feeling a lot better. Just take a couple of days to get over that. It was probably the traveling and everything else. (Pineda) has trained all week, so that’s been a good thing for him getting confidence with the injury that he had, so he feels that he’s pretty much over that, so we’re confident with him and with Zach Scott that they’re ready to go this weekend. (Pineda) has obviously been a very important part of our midfield this season, so we’ve missed him the last few games he hasn’t been there. But obviously Micheal Azira has stepped in an done well. Andy Rose has done well also.
On strategy for these two games vs. a playoff aggregate-score series: It’s regular season games, it’s not playoff games. The situation is we know we’ve got to win one of the two to win Supporters Shield. It’s not cumulative score or anything like that. It’s a different scenario.
On the reality that two draws would be enough: We rarely play for a draw. Maybe with 10 minutes to go we might play for a draw, depending on how a games runs in a certain scenario. But rarely do we play for a draw.
