In professional sports, the end of one season signals the start of another.
Here are quotes from Sounders coach Sigi Schmid and captain Brad Evans, taking ambivalent first looks ahead to 2015:
SCHMID: Every year is a new year. That will be a different group of players and a new group that comes together. You start turning the page now and looking at it. But the pain that we feel right now hopefully will motivate us for next year, but we also know that we have to improve our team. In certain situations we have guys that are getting older as well, so we’ve got to look at making some changes there. But certainly I think there’s a good nucleus here. We added some good pieces this year and we’ve got to continue building around that.
EVANS: They’re a good team, a well-coached team, (mostly) veteran players. … Almost identical to our team in that respect. So when we play it’s always a battle and everybody wants to play good soccer and we fight. But the reality is they’ve got our number now, and now we’ve got to do our best to change that and buck that trend, and now we go into the off-season saying what can we do to beat these guys.
