The U.S. Open golf trophy was on display at Sounders training at Starfire this morning, in advance of the tournament beginning next week at Chambers Bay in Pierce County.
The Sounders seemed to appreciate seeing it, as even non-golfers could appreciate the athletic achievement it represents.
Coach SIGI SCHMID: It was cool seeing it. Excellence in any sport is something you appreciate and admire. For me being an older guy, you look on there and you recognize the names from the past: the Arnold Palmers and the Gary Players and people like that. I remember as a young kid watching on TV in black and white, golf tournaments and things like that. It’s good when you see the history of the event. And to have a cup with everybody’s name I love traditional things like that: I think those things are great.Perkins)
Defender BRAD EVANS: I am not a golfer, but it is really cool.
Never miss a local story.
I’ve been able to see a Stanley Cup up close and personal, which was really good. Randomly, actually. They were doing like a tour in California and they happened to be doing a photo shoot on the beach I used to live on in Newport. That was pretty cool.
