Seattle Sounders FC today learned the dates for its 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage matches against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and CD Olimipia. The club is hosting Group Stage fixtures on August 19 against CD Olimpia of Honduras and September 23 against Vancouver on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field. Sounders FC Full Season Ticket Members already have access to these matches via their 2015 ticket packages. Single-match ticketing information and broadcast details will be made available in the weeks ahead.
Seattle's Group F action begins on Wednesday, August 5 with a road match at Vancouver's BC Place before hosting CD Olimpia two weeks later in Seattle. The Rave Green then travel to Tegucigalpa, Honduras a week later on Wednesday, August 26 for the reverse fixture against Olimpia. The Rave Green close out Group Stage play with a September 23 matchup against its Cascadia rival to the north. All matches are scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 p.m. PT.
This marks the Rave Green's fourth appearance in the regional tournament that consists of the top club teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Sounders FC qualified for the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League after an impressive 2014 season in which it captured the Supporters' Shield and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Seattle previously advanced out of the SCCL Group Stage in both the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 tournaments. In 2012-2013, Sounders FC became the first MLS team to oust a Mexican side from the tournament when it advanced past Tigres UANL in the Quarterfinal Round.
The 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League consists of eight groups of three teams each. Each team plays the other two teams in its group twice - one home and one away - with each group winner advancing to the Knockout Stage.
Sounders FC returns to MLS regular season action when it takes on D.C. United this Friday, July 3 on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field (8:00 p.m. PT / UniMas, JOEtv, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
