Here’s a preview from the club:
Seattle Reign FC (9-3-3, 30 pts) will look to extend its winning streak to four games on Wednesday, August 12 in a matchup with the Houston Dash (5-6-5, 20 pts). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT on the Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium, with a live, high-definition webstream available at YouTube.com/NWSL.
With a victory over the Dash, Seattle could be the first team to clinch a 2015 playoff spot. Reign FC is currently atop the NWSL standings in first place with 30 points, three points ahead of the Chicago Red Stars, while the Houston Dash sit two points outside the fourth playoff spot with 20 points.
Seattle is coming off a bye week from league action following a 2-1 victory over the Boston Breakers at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Allston, Mass on August 1. Forward Beverly Yanez and midfielder Kim Little both tallied goals in the victory as Reign FC grabbed its third road win of the 2015 campaign.
Never miss a local story.
Yanez sits tied for second in the NWSL for goals scored with nine, while Little leads the league in assists with six.
Reign FC will also look to extend its home-unbeaten streak to 21 games, which dates back to the start of the 2014 season when the team moved to Memorial Stadium.
After a strong July that saw Houston go 2-1-1, the Dash have lost their first two matches of August, a 3-1 defeat on the road to the Washington Spirit and a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Sky Blue FC last Friday.
The Dash are lead by forwards Jessica McDonald and Kealia Ohai, and midfielder Carli Lloyd. McDonald leads the team with seven goals, while Lloyd and Ohai have four and three goals, respectively.
Lloyd was voted NWSL Player of the Month by the media for the month of July after she scored in each of her first three games back with the Dash after winning the Women’s World Cup with the United States.
In addition to Lloyd, Houston’s roster also sports several players making their way back from World Cup action. That includes U.S. Women’s National Team defender Meghan Klingenberg and midfielder Morgan Brian, as well as Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod and defender Allyscha Chapman.
Houston recently signed defender Jen LaPonte, who has made five appearances for the Dash this season as an amateur player, with two starts.
Wednesday’s game is the first of two regular season matchups between Reign FC and the Dash. The two sides will square off again on Friday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m. PT at BBVA Compass Stadium.
