No. 21 Arizona (5-2, 3-1 Pacific-10 Conference)
12:30 p.m. Saturday, Arizona Stadium, Tucson, Fox College Sports, 850-AM, 1240-AM, 1030-AM
Coach: Mike Stoops (30-36), sixth season.
Last week: Arizona had a bye after defeating UCLA, 27-13, on Oct. 24.
Against the Cougars: Arizona leads the series, 23-13, with four consecutive wins. The Wildcats beat WSU, 59-28, last year in Pullman.
Washington connections: Senior Adam Grant, a former Puyallup High School standout, starts at right tackle. Running back Kevin Morris (West Seattle High) and wide receiver Brad Posten (Lewis & Clark High of Spokane) are senior walk-ons. Posten transferred from Puget Sound last year. Defensive line coach Mike Tuiasosopo starred on the 1987 NAIA Division II champions of Pacific Lutheran. He is a cousin of former Seattle Seahawk Manu Tuiasosopo and ex-Washington Husky Marques Tuiasosopo.
Scouting report: Playing the 21st-ranked Wildcats on homecoming before a third consecutive road crowd of 50,000-plus could be overwhelming for the young Cougars. Arizona ranks 14th in total offense and 26th in total defense; WSU stands 114th and 119th, respectively. The 6-foot-6, 325-pound Grant is part of a massive offensive line that has yielded just four sacks (tied for first nationally) and helps Arizona average 5.5 yards per carry. The Cougars have given up 40 sacks (second-to-last in the nation) and average 2.4 yards when they run the ball. When the Wildcats go to the air, Michigan State transfer Nick Foles – who broke high school records set by current NFL star Drew Brees in Austin, Texas – is No. 1 in the country with a 72.3 completion percentage.
Did you know? The Wildcats have won five in a row at home and are 11-6 in their past 17 Pac-10 games, home or away. The Cougars have lost 12 in a row outside Pullman and have dropped 13 of their past 14 Pac-10 games, regardless of location.
