Modern classic “Beauty and the Beast” presented by Tacoma Musical Playhouse
A Broadway classic, “Beauty and the Beast” has played to millions worldwide. Based on the animated feature, the stage version includes all the original songs plus some new ones. The Tacoma Musical Playhouse’s production opens Friday and will continue through July 29 at 7116 Sixth Ave. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Country legend Kenny Chesney comes to Century Link Field
With more than 40 top 10 singles, Kenny Chesney has been honored with the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award four times. A performer for more than 20 years, the country music legend will take the stage at Century Link Field, 800 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle, for a 5 p.m. concert Saturday. “Music of Spain & Latin America” first performance in Second City Chamber Series
Bringing diverse voices and traditions from throughout the musical world, the Second City Chamber Series comes to Lakewold Gardens, 12317 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood, for its latest concert, “Music of Spain & Latin America.” The 7:30 p.m. performance Thursday will feature guitarist Hilary Field performing works from her new album of contemporary Hispanic works. Street rods, music and food at Fircrest Picnic and Rod Run
In its 31st year, the Annual Fircrest Picnic and Rod Run will take over Fircrest City Park, 555 Contra Costa Ave. on Sunday and feature street rods from the Puget Sound area. Local bands perform at annual Curran Apple Orchard concert series
The Curran Apple Orchard Summer Concert Series will kick off this year’s season Thursday with U253, a U2. tribute band. The free concerts are at 6:30 p.m. at the Curran Apple Orchard, 3920 Grandview Drive, University Place. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics, or enjoy food from Hometown Hotdogs. The series lineup: July 26, America’s First Corps Band, Courage; Aug. 2, the Fabulous Murphtones; Aug. 16, the David Deacon-Joyner Trio. A history of ‘creative reuse’ the focus of new exhibit
The Washington State History Museum’s newest exhibition, “Make/Do: A History of Creative Reuse,” will open July 14 and continue through Dec. 6. The exhibit presents upcycled artwork and artifacts from throughout Washington’s history. The featured artists and makers will attend a preview party from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the museum, 1911 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. Dog cluster features three American Kennel Club shows
With more than 1,500 dogs and three days of competition, the Western Washington Summer Cluster will take over the Washington State Fair Event Center, 110 Ninth St. SW, Puyallup, from Saturday through Monday. Three all-breed shows — the Tacoma Kennel Club, Puyallup Valley Dog Fanciers and the Gig Harbor Kennel Club — will bring more than 150 breeds to compete in conformation, obedience and junior showmanship and rally.
