History comes alive at Tacoma cemetery tour

With eight re-enactors sharing history, the annual Tacoma Living History Cemetery Tour will focus on city’s forefathers who were involved in the arts and had an impact on Tacoma’s history. Held in one of the city’s oldest cemeteries — Tacoma Cemetery, 4801 South Tacoma Way — tours start every 20 minutes. Times are 6-7:30 p.m. Friday and 5:40-7:40 Saturday. Mining, railroad and fun at Wilkeson’s Handcar Races

Celebrating a long history with the railroad and mining, Wilkeson’s Annual Handcar Races will include a breakfast at the Eagles Hall, 534 Church St.; a grand parade at 11 a.m.; a Blue Thunder Drumline performance; live music with The W Lovers; vendors; and the handcar races. Little circus with big acts at STAR Center in Tacoma

Created by a former Ringling Bros. ringmaster, the Venardos Circus wraps world-class circus acts into a Broadway musical style format with aerialists, acrobats, juggling, balancing, daredevil acts and performers from around the world. The big top tent will go up at the STAR Center, 3873 S. 66th St., Tacoma, for three days of shows — 7 p.m. Friday, 1, 4, and 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Outdoor movies in the park series sponsored by Click TV

Click TV Summer Movies in the Park will start Friday at Fircrest Park in Fircrest with “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Sponsored by Click TV, the movie screen will pop up at parks throughout the area through Aug. 18. The lineup will be “Moana” on July 28 as part of Ethnic Fest at Tacoma’s Wright Park; “Peter Rabbit” on Aug. 3 at Kandle Park in Tacoma; “Coco” on Aug. 4 at Cirque Park in University Place; “Cars 3” on Aug. 10 at the Center at Norpoint in Tacoma; “Sherlock Gnomes” on Aug. 17 at STAR Center in Tacoma; and “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” on Aug. 18 at Chambers Bay in University Place. All the movies are free and begin at dusk.

Opening festivities for TAM exhibit “To Sing of Beauty”

The Tacoma Art Museum’s newest summer exhibition — “To Sing of Beauty” — focuses on the power, beauty and richness of blackness with video installations by Northwest artist C. Davida Ingram and Atlanta-based Paul Stephen Benjamin. It will be on display through Sept. 30. Opening day activities July 21 will include dance interpretation by the Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center and music by Miz Floes & Jazzy Sol. Russian classicals in Lakewold Gardens concert

The Second City Chamber Series: “Russian Expansion” will offer music from Russian classical masters Brodin, Rachmanioff and Rimsky Korsako. The 7:30 p.m. performance will be Thursday at Lakewold Gardens, 12317 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood, and feature the Trebelle Piano Trio. Hip-Hop throwback concert at the ShoWare Center

Hip-hop night at the All-Star Throwback Jam at the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St., Kent, will feature Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, JaRule, E-40, Ying Yang Twins and Baby Bash & J.J. Fadd. Food on wheels at Tacoma Food Truck Festival

Filling Wright Park with food, music and entertainment, the Tacoma Food Truck Festival will feature 23 food trucks and vendors, along with music by Baking With Julia and singer/songwriter Kristen Marlo. There will be community information booths and vendors as well from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is if free. The park is at 501 S. I St.
