Tacoma hosts Jet City Comic Show for second year

If you happen to be out for a stroll near the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center on Saturday, don’t be surprised if you run into your fellow citizens pretending to be “Star Wars” stormtroopers, “Walking Dead” zombies, or Apollo and Starbuck from the original “Battlestar Galactica.”

Actually, those last two will be the real Apollo and Starbuck — actors Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict, respectively. They, along with a host of big-name comic artists, will be gathering for the Jet City Comic Show in Tacoma.

This is the second year the show is appearing in Grit City after its move out of Seattle. Along with celebrity appearances, the day features gaming events, costume contests, art displays and an acting class with Hatch. Panels will cover cosplay makeup and effects, journalism using comics, and comic book history.

After the main event wraps up downtown, the activity moves to Tacoma’s Blue Mouse Theatre for three screenings of “The Last Unicorn” with its writer, Peter S. Beagle, in attendance (see related story).
