Monday

Martin Luther King Jr. Day breakfast: Annual MLK Unity Breakfast to recognize and celebrate the legacy of King and his historic civic leadership that inspired a nation to strive for equality. Keith Beauchamp will give the keynote address at 8 a.m. Jan. 18 at the University Y Student Center, 1710 Market St., Tacoma. $10-$20. 253-692-4501

MLK celebration: Sponsored by the city of Tacoma. Keynote speaker is Dr. William Bell. 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center, 1500 Broadway, Tacoma. Free.

Tuesday

MLK Day event: 30th annual celebration featuring hip-hop artist and community activist. Jasiri X will be keynote speaker. Event includes messages from the community and live music. At 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Schneebeck Concert Hall, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. Warner St., Free.

This month’s theme is “Resolution: Stories of Decision, Determination and Choice” where you will hear about times a life decision or a choice was made or determination demonstrated.
