Monster Jam bringing new vehicles, events to South Sound
Eight athletes will be driving trucks, speedsters and all-terrain vehicles when Monster Jam returns this weekend to the Tacoma Dome.
The drivers will be competing against one another in a new format, taking part in seven different endurance competitions involving all three types of vehicles. The events include wheelie, freestyle, doughnuts, racing, speedster obstacle course, speedster racing and ATV.
This is the first time the speedsters and ATVs will be part of the event in Tacoma.
Because of Monster Jam’s popularity at previous stops at the Tacoma Dome, organizers said they added a Sunday evening performance for this year’s schedule.
Gig Harbor drivers
In their third year of competing, 32-year-old twins Travis and Tyler Groth moved to Washington when they were 3 and call Gig Harbor home. After being crew members for Joe Cypher, owner and driver of Airborne Ranger, the twins really jumped into the sport when they created their own team, Mirror Image Racing, with the Double Trouble Monster Jam truck. For this year, the twins have joined Team NEA and Team Zombie.
