Notorious characters take

the stage at 5th Avenue

Billed as funny, dark and haunting, the musical “Assassins,” opens at the 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 Fifth Ave., Seattle, with co-production performances at ACT — A Contemporary Theatre. Meet some of the most notorious figures in American history, the assassins who tried and some succeeded to kill the president. Show dates are Saturday through May 8. Get your stitch fix

It’s a weekend of sewing, fabric and classes during the Sewing and Stitchery Expo at the Washington State Fair Events Center, 110 Ninth Ave. SW, Puyallup. It has something for every sewing and quilting enthusiast. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday in the ShowPlex, Pavilion and Expo Hall. Tickets are $12 advance at sewexpo.com or $14 at the door. Enter at the Gold or Blue gates.

Hit the trails at Snake Lake

Get competitive in a fun Snake Lake Adventure Quest from 1-4:30 p.m. Saturday. Join or bring a team, answer riddles, complete missions and navigate the trails at Snake Lake to win prizes. Learn about local habitat while having family fun. Meet at Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St., Tacoma. Cost is $15 or $13.50 for center members. Registration required. Dig your heels in at Western Fest

With a tip of the hat to all things Western, the Tacoma Art Museum, 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, is hosting Western Fest — Free Community Festival from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy leatherworking demonstration, play cowboy games, make art and meet local legend Fred Oldfield. There will also be music by The Earnest Lovers. Nettles headlines Next Women of Country Tour

Join the CMT 2016 Next Women of Country Tour when it comes to the Emerald Queen Casino, 2029 E. 29th St., Tacoma. It features headliner Jennifer Nettles and also includes Brandy Clark, Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson. Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert on Thursday are $40-$70 and are available through Ticketmaster. This is a 21-and-over concert.

Early music with Hanover Baroque

Take in the next installment of the Salish Sea Early Music Festival at the Hanover Baroque concert at 2 p.m. Sunday. It will feature special guests from Germany, harpsichordist Benward Lohr and Anne Röhrig, violinist. Come out to Mason United Methodist Church, 2710 N. Madison St., Tacoma, for an afternoon of music. Tacoma Youth Symphony plays ‘A Little Russian’

Enjoy the talents of young musicians at the Tacoma Youth Symphony concert, “A Little Russian,” featuring the Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra. Overture to “Ruslan and Ludmilla,” waltz from “Sleeping Beauty,” Symphony No. 2 “Little Russian” and a student concerto will be performed at the 7 p.m. performance Saturday. Lewis Black’s naked truth

Known as a standup comedian, actor and author, Lewis Black performs more than 200 nights a year in Europe, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, providing a cathartic release of anger and disillusionment in his show. On his “The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth Tour,’ he is making a stop at The Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine St., Seattle, for an 8 p.m. show Saturday.
