Take the family, a blanket, a picnic and catch an outdoor movie

A good way to spend a summer evening is to watch an outdoor film as a family. As we head into the final month of summer vacation, there are a number of locations to have a picnic dinner, then watch a movie.

While some locations will have food and beverages for sales, other venues say to bring your own snacks and drinks.

Need another enticement? All these movies are being shown for free.

Here is a look at some of the options:

Key Pen Parks

Activities before the movies begin at 7:30 p.m. and movies will begin at dusk.

Friday (Aug. 5): “Charlotte’s Web.”

Aug. 12: “Minions.”

Aug. 19: “Zootopia.”

Aug. 26: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

LeMay — America’s Car Museum

Saturday: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

A 40-foot outdoor screen will be set up on the grass of the museum’s Haub Family Field. Parking opens at 4:30 p.m., with the movie starting about 9 p.m. Concessions will be for sale. The movie is free, but does not include museum admission.

Metro Parks Tacoma

Friday (Aug. 5): “Rio.”

Summer Bash activities will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the movie starting at dusk. There will be Olympics-inspired competitions and demonstrations, including dance and fitness and a giant inflatable obstacle course. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.

Where: Stewart Heights Park, 402 E. 56th St., Tacoma.

Aug. 12: “Inside Out.”

Activities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the movie starting at dusk

Where: The Center at Norpoint, 4818 Nassau Ave. NE, Tacoma.

Aug. 20: “Zootopia.”

Activities are set to begin at 6 p.m., with the movie at dusk.

Where: Star Center, 3873 S. 66th St., Tacoma.

Aug. 19: “Aladdin.”

The movie will start at dusk.
