Have your say about Tacoma’s graffiti issues at a public forum

Graffiti comes in many forms, from the public nuisance of scrawled tags that deface property, to the vibrant, beautiful murals that grace Tacoma’s Rialto Theater, Embellish Salon and more. A range of Tacoma’s graffiti issues will be the topic of a public forum hosted by the New Tacoma Neighborhood Council on Wednesday at the Old Post Office Building downtown.

“As a member of the arts commission, I can say that I feel graffiti is far more than tagging,” says co-organizer Traci Kelly. “There is a range of activity going on in our city from tragic to fantastic, and I hope that the forum will call people’s attention to the possibilities as well as the problems.”

A panel of representatives from the Tacoma Police Department, the Downtown Merchants Group, Fab5 arts group, the downtown Business Improvement Area, the city of Tacoma’s Graffiti Task Force and the Tacoma Arts Commission will answer directed questions before the discussion is opened up to the public. Bring your concerns, suggestions and requests to the free forum at 6 p.m. Wednesdeay. The Old Post Office is at 1102 A St., Tacoma.
