TACOMA SYMPHONY CHORUS

The Tacoma Symphony Chorus offers its annual stand-alone concert as a meditation on life and light. “Life, Luminous” features contemporary beloved classics like Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on this Shining Night” and “Lux Aeterna,” older works like Fauré’s “Cantique de Jean Racine” and works by James Whitbourne, Ola Gjeillo, and more about life’s progression from darkness to luminosity. 7:30 p.m. Friday (April 10). $20 general, $40 preferred seating. ‘EVITA’ AT TACOMA MUSICAL PLAYHOUSE

Tacoma Musical Playhouse presents “Evita,” the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical about Argentina’s legendary Eva Peron, her rise to power from the slums and her tragic death. BOOKS, BOATS AT FOSS WATERWAY SEAPORT

Books and boats collide Sunday at the Foss Waterway Seaport, which plays host to an event for the Pierce County Library’s Pierce County Reads program. Based on the book “The Boys in the Boat,” about the 1936 Olympic gold-winning row team from the University of Washington, the event follows the Daffodil Festival Marine Parade and includes a discussion with Judy Willman, daughter of crew member Joe Rantz (Willman discussion at 1 p.m., a rowing demonstration at 2 p.m., storytelling at 2:30 p.m., and author appearance by Jordan Hanssen at 3:15 p.m.).
