‘Listen Live at Lunch’ comes back to First Lutheran in downtown Tacoma, with local classical soloists

Summer is often a dead time for classical music, which is why the Listen Live at Lunch series, organized by pianist Duane Hulbert at First Lutheran Church in downtown Tacoma, is so welcome. The free lunchtime Wednesday concert series features local soloists from Hulbert himself to Irish folk music and lieder for soprano, all in the historic church’s superb acoustics.

The series begins Wednesday, with Hulbert’s son Evan on double bass playing Beethoven and Koussevitzky, accompanied by his father.

Here’s the rest of the lineup:

June 24: Colleen Raney and Hanz Araki, Irish folk music.

July 1: Neil Hulbert, trumpet.

July 8: Maria Sampen and Timothy Christie, violins.

July 15: Duane Hulbert, piano.

July 22: Una Hwang, organ.

July 29: David Salge, clarinet and Coni Lijengren, piano.

Aug. 5: Piano students of Paul Twedt.
