Original Pancake House opens Tuesday on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue

The Original Pancake House will open its second Pierce County location tomorrow. The Tacoma outpost is at 601 Pine St., the former home of Primo Grill before it moved a few blocks to Sixth and Oakes.

The breakfast-only restaurant is an Oregon-based chain with South Sound locations. The Sixth Avenue pancake house will be operated by franchise owners Ryan Medford and Blake Williams who opened the South Hill Original Pancake House in June 2009. They opened another in Maple Valley in 2013.

The restaurant features more than a dozen styles of pancakes, in generous portions. A personal favorite are the bacon pancakes, and the Georgia pecan cakes. And, yes, they serve buckwheat pancakes, a dish that has all but disappeared from breakfast menus.

The rest of the menu is a narrow category of from-scratch breakfast items, including omelets, biscuits and gravy and the restaurant’s signature Dutch baby, a puffy pancake souffle served dusted with powdered sugar and lemon wedges. Here’s the full menu.

Breakfast is served at the restaurant, no matter the time of day.
