In a few short hours, the Seven-Oh-One restaurant in downtown Tacoma will close its doors for good.
A review of Seven-Oh-One was scheduled to run today here and in the GO entertainment section. We canceled the review after we were told that it would close this week.
I spoke with owner Patti Iseman about the closure by phone yesterday. Iseman didn’t want to discuss the reasons for closing her restaurant. She only would confirm she was closing today. She said they would close up after dinner service....
I did ask Iseman if there were any pending gift certificates left to be honored, or any scheduled catering events on their books for which I could give her diners instructions. She said no to both – that there were no pending gift certificates to honor and no catering events scheduled requiring diners be notified.
I visited Seven-Oh-One three times, and published this first-bite report in April when the restaurant was fledgling. On one memorable visit this summer, when the restaurant was offering half-price everything Thursday nights, I enjoyed marinated pork tenderloin with a creamy coconut jasmine rice and a $3 martini (another regular special). A corn chowder was creamy and laced with smoky studs of bacon. The lettuce wraps were giant sheets of crisp lettuce wrapped around pickled carrots and ground turkey with chunky pieces of ginger and onion.
Because Iseman didn’t want to talk about the closure or participate in a story, I don’t have any word of what will happen to the chef there. If anyone has news, please comment here.
