News Tribune arts critic Rosemary Ponnekanti took a big, delicious bite out of gelato in today's SoundLife food section. Having lived most of her life in Melbourne, Australia, where there’s a significant Italian population and related food products, her gelato standards are high. Says Ponnekanti, "I expect it to be rich without ice cream’s bland creaminess. I want tangy fruit gelati. I’m also used to streets full of competing gelaterias with flavors such as lemon, lime, all kinds of berries, pistachio, amaretto, the Marsala-based zabaglione, and Italian combinations like bacio and cassata."
Take a look at her story here on gelato around town. She'll tell you where to find scoops at Metropolitan Market, Origin 23 coffee shop on Sixth in Tacoma, Sorci's Italian Cafe and Enoteca in Sumner, Indochine on Pacific in Tacoma, I.Talia Pizzeria in Olympia and Forza Coffees in DuPont and Puyallup.
