The spring and summer restaurant opening season has begun with bar openings. Yesterday, I told you about Flying Boots in the Lincoln neighborhood. Here are three more bar openings in Lakewood and Sumner.
Now open in Lakewood: Penny's on the Boulevard opened last week where Lakewood Pub & Grill previously operated. This is a first restaurant and bar for owner Erin Mason-Esseln. She described the menu in this article as burgers, pizza and diner eats. Penny's is at 7505 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood; 253-302-3208, pennysontheblvd.com
Also open in Lakewood: Cheers Bar and Grill opened another location in mid-March on Bridgeport in Lakewood, joining locations in South Hill, downtown Tacoma, University Place and Lacey. More information, including location addresses, at the restaurant's website.
Open in downtown Sumner: Stuck Junction Saloon opened March 20 at 1005 Main St. with a menu of burgers made from ground chuck and brisket from Puyallup's Blue Max Meats, my favorite butcher and creator of Beast Mode Skittles sausage. Find more information on Stuck Junction here. It's operating where Bottomz Up previously served brew.
Restaurant openings at the top of my watch list: the downtown Tacoma eatery Aviateur, described here as a French restaurant, applied for a liquor permit in the former home of Zara Mediterranean and Sea Grill. Cafe Vincero, the downtown Tacoma Italian eatery and wine bar, is in the final stages of permit approvals and should open very soon.
