As construction progresses on the Proctor area’s Cooks Tavern, here comes an announcement of another new restaurant.
And it’s in the same building. And from the same owner.
While Cooks Tavern takes up a solid chunk of the building at North 26th and North Alder streets, space remained for a second business.
Owner Peter Levy of Chow Foods, which operates several established Seattle haunts, including the 5 Spot and Endolyne Joe’s, hatched an idea after he bought the building last year and started making plans to open Cooks Tavern.
Why not have two restaurants under one roof?
Brewers Row will be the upcoming companion to Cooks Tavern.
Brewers Row will be a fast-service restaurant (meaning diners order at the counter and find their own seat) that will serve three meal periods, starting with espresso and pastries, house-baked biscuits and breakfast sandwiches at 7 a.m., with lunch and dinner following.
As he described it via email, “Brewers Row will morph through the day and into the night as a beer house with 34 draft beers and ciders on tap with as many local taps as possible. We will also have close to 100 additional bottled beer and cider offerings that will be priced similarly to the grocery store markups seen in the area.”
The menu, he said, will be different for afternoon and evenings, but they’re still being written. Levy described the food concept as brew friendly and including shareable plates. The space will be friendly to all-ages dining through the evening and he plans to serve until 11 p.m. daily.
Expect an opening sometime in August, or after, for Brewers Row.
Next door, Cooks Tavern is closer to opening. Levy is hoping for a May debut, but that timeline is contingent on a permit being issued for sidewalk improvements.
Cooks Tavern will be an 85-seat full-service restaurant with table service. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
As Levy described the concept earlier this year, “We will be celebrating cooks, past, present and future with an ever-changing menu that will focus on foods of the Americas.”
He said the opening menu will include a real South Sound focus. It’s in the works now. Expect 14 beers on tap at Cooks Tavern.
That restaurant also will be family friendly.
