Federal Way singer survives Battle Rounds on 'The Voice'

Ayesha Brooks, the Federal Way singer who calls herself Music Box, survived the Battle Rounds of NBC TV’s “The Voice” on Monday night because of a save from celebrity coach Usher.

The talent show that boosted the careers of Tacoma singers Vicci Martinez and Stephanie Anne Johnson is in its sixth season. During the previously taped Battle Rounds, two singers from the same team perform a duet, then one is eliminated by the team’s coach, based on the performance. However, the other three celebrity judges have the option of saving the eliminated performer for their own team.

That’s what happened to Music Box in Monday night’s broadcast.

Celebrity coach Shakira chose fellow contestant Deja Hall over Music Box after the two sang “Eternal Flame” by The Bangles.

That’s when Usher stepped in to save Music Box. She now moves on to the Knockout phase of performances.
