More than 550 marijuana plants confiscated at illegal Gig Harbor grow, police say
Gig Harbor police confiscated more than 550 marijuana plants after a tip from a neighbor led them to an illegal grow operation within the city limits.
Officers received the tip Tuesday, the Gig Harbor Police Department and served a search warrant on a house in the 4000 block of 101st Street.
“Further investigation provided validity to the tip and officers made contact with a person associated with the residence who admitted to participating in the illegal cultivation of marijuana plants,” the press release stated.
It is not legal for an unlicensed person or business to grow any amount of marijuana for recreational use.
Gig Harbor officers, with the assistance of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department, documented a growing operation that included 552 marijuana plants. The street value of the plants is estimated at over $250,000.
The house was heavily modified with significant ventilation and power distribution systems. It appears whoever controlled the growing operation was diverting electrical power without paying for the utilities, according to the press release.
Gig Harbor police are still investigating the case.
