COFFEE/PLAY STOP

What: Coffee Outfitters espresso stand does terrific coffee with a friendly welcome. It has a long swing under the giant oak tree outside, with plenty of running-around room for kids. There’s also a mini-patio and indoor seating in its tiny Swiss chalet.

Where: Opposite the gas station in Adna, just after you turn onto Bunker Road from Highway 12.

BLACK SHEEP CREAMERY

Cheese: Sheep milk; feta, mature, plus fresh, ricotta, mizithra and yogurt in season

LUNCH STOP

What: Market Street Bakery and Café, 492 N. Market Blvd., Chehalis. Note: They are only open 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Load up on cheeses (remember to bring your cooler and picnic set) at the dairies, then pass through historic downtown Chehalis for some bakery-made sourdough-semolina bread at the Market Street café. If the weather holds, you can eat al fresco on benches by the fountain outside the library, one block south. Otherwise, the café offers homemade soups, fresh panini sandwiches, yummy baked goods (try the cannoli), and coffee.
