Here’s why Pierce County has more ‘officer needs help’ alerts than neighboring counties
There were 230 “officer needs help” alerts sent by South Sound 911 dispatchers to Pierce County law enforcement and fire agencies from 2011 through January, records show. That is far more than the number of alerts sent out by dispatchers in neighboring counties.
The alerts often cause large responses by law enforcement agencies in the area, sometimes involving dozens of officers.
This video takes a look at the reasons South Sound 911 dispatchers send out so many “officer needs help” alerts and breaks down how many of those alerts resulted in police reports.
