A group of rescued dogs looking for new homes have made the journey from Texas to the Northwest.

Through the rescue work of Project Freedom Ride, the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County received 10 of 43 dogs from central, western, and northern Texas Wednesday evening.

Tacoma’s partner, Kitsap Humane Society, took five puppies in the group to Silverdale for adoption there.

The project connects abandoned dogs in Texas with rescues and animal shelters in this region on a monthly basis, not just as part of Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

The Humane Society first partnered with the rescue group in April.

The dogs in this trip range from 5 months old to 3 years in age, and will be available for adoption at the Tacoma shelter, 2608 Center St., in the next few days.
