2014 Governor’s Award: State seeks workers who have saved a life on the job

Saving a life may be a reward unto itself, but there is a reward beyond that.

The State Department of Labor & Industries is seeking nominations for the 2014 Governor’s Lifesaving Awards.

Do you know of someone – perhaps even yourself – who saved a life during working hours and between June 1, 2013 and May 31, 2014?

According to an L&I release this week, the Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board is accepting nominations concerning workers in Washington who are covered by the state’s workers’ compensation system or who work for a self-insured employer in the state.

The board also will present humanitarian awards to people who, despite their best efforts, were unable to save a victim’s life.

Last year, 40 people were recognized with lifesaving or humanitarian awards.

For a nomination form and for more information on qualifications, contact Laura Glover, the award coordinator, at 360-902-5533. Nomination forms are available at

The awards will be presented at the 63rd Annual Governor’s Industrial Safety and Health Conference on Sept. 25 in Spokane.
