Employers, learn more about wages for reduced-hour employees

Employers have two chances next week to learn more about the State of Washington’s Shared Work program, which helps supplement employee wages when their hours have been reduced.

Instead of laying off workers, employers can reduce work hours for permanent employees who can collect partial unemployment benefits to replace a portion of their lost wages, according to a news release Friday from the state’s Employment Security Department.

Two information sessions are scheduled next week in Tacoma and Orting.

In Orting: 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., Wednesday (Sept. 10) at the High Cedars Golf Course, 14604 149th St. Ct E, Orting. The session is sponsored by the Orting Chamber of Commerce.

In Tacoma: 6:30 p.m to 9 p.m. on Thursday (Sept. 11) at the La Quinta Hotel, 1425 East 27th St. The session is part of a dinner sponsored by the Automotive Service Association. Members of the public must pay a $30 registration fee.
