Tacoma Art Museum announces new opening date for expansion

The public and members of the Tacoma Art Museum will celebrate its expansion together on Nov. 15.

The museum included the revised date in a news release this week. Originally that date was a members-only event, with the public invited the next day, but museum officials decided to combine the events for a larger celebration, spokeswoman Julianna Verboort confirmed in an email.

The museum will host a members-only party that evening.

The museum broke ground in September on an expansion and renovation to house the private art collection of German billionaire Erivan Haub and his wife, Helga. The 16,000-square-foot museum expansion adds 32 percent new space to the museum’s 50,000-square-foot facility.

The new lobby opened in late August.
