The former University Place Tire Center a4 4402 Bridgeport Way W. will soon be demolished to make way for a Fred Meyer gasoline outlet.
Robert Green, managing broker at Northwest Advisors LLC, reported Wednesday that the retailer has signed a long-term ground lease for the one-acre property located across 44th Street West from a Baskin-Robbins ice cream store.
A Fred Meyer construction crew will demolish the former tire center, Green said, and then begin building the gas station.
Fred Meyer spokeswoman Melinda Merrill confirmed the information on Wednesday and said the company hopes to open the fuel station by the end of January.
