Protecting your data-self: BBB offers free document shredding on Saturday in Tacoma

Along with being a Saturday, October 18 is “Secure Your ID Day” as proclaimed by the Better Business Bureau and presented with Wells Fargo.

If you’ve a mind to celebrate by securing your identity, then head for Tacoma Mall.

Mobile shredding trucks will be on site accepting up to three bags or boxes of unwanted documents per person, according to a bureau release Friday.

BBB staff will be available to answer questions about preventing identity theft and provide resources for victims.

The shredding begins at 9 a.m. at the mall, and continues through 1 p.m. The event is free to the public and will include free child fingerprinting and ID cards offered by Safe Streets.

Those attending also will have the opportunity to recycle their cell phones by having the data wiped and the phones donated to victims of domestic abuse.
