About 1,100 employees of CHI Franciscan Health have a new contract as of 8 p.m. Tuesday.
That’s when union workers at St. Joseph and St. Clare hospitals ratified their new contract. About 800 of the employees at St. Joe’s started bargaining their contract in October 2013. Some 300 employees of St. Clare started this past June. They are members of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.
The employees covered by the contract at St. Joe’s run the gamut, from dietary workers to housekeepers to people who sterilize instruments, though no doctors or nurses. At St. Clare’s, the workers are those with technical certifications who work in specialized departments such as radiology.
They held a 24-hour strike in mid-November.

The contract includes a “strengthened labor-management partnership in determining staffing, an increased investment in workers’ retirement, wage increases, and a management commitment to transparency around employees’ qualification for charity care financial assistance to meet their families’ health care needs,” according to a union news release.
